but I'm still around ,been awhile since I've bought any engines so jumped back in with a vengeance lol. found this Max Gray DRGW L105 for a pretty fair price at Brass Trains. Com so pulled the trigger yesterday. it will need a bit of work tender steps and straighting out a couple of things and a bit of paint touch up after which it'll go to the backshop for DCC Sound installation.
Good to have you back! The engine look's great . My layout couldn't handle an engine that big it would never make the turns. As much as I would like to have an engine like that I just don't have the space to build a layout that I could run it.
I hope you get to have a lot of fun working with it. I hope to see it when you got it complete.
Well its on home rails if that's the words to use, course seeing as I no longer have a layout per se ...I've belonged to the Arizona Model Railroading Society for the past 40 yrs so guess I do sorta kinda have a layout lol.
its a 20X50ft DCC set up with 42"44" radius curves so were good to go as far as these kinds of brutes go! of whick I have a few!
Here is a snap shot I took outside that shows the dark green hue to the boiler in a better light, think this really sets off this paint job.
well good news and bad news.
Tsunami heavy steam decoder was installed and we've set up and adjusted the cv's to my satisfaction and it sounds great!
Bad news is the brass mounting plate on the rear engine which helps secure it to the boiler broke loose and will need to be resoldered.....
Luckily my installer has a resistant soldering set up so shouldn't be a major job but finding time now during the holidays may be a bit trying
